COVID-19 Update

**Update Feb 9, 2022**
Families, Volunteers and Friends of Fleet Park,

!!!### COVID-19 SAFETY POLICY 2022 - PLEASE READ ###!!!

**Update July 10, 2020**

Families, Volunteers and Friends of Fleet Park,

Your Fleet Park Board of Directors and other volunteers have put forth a huge effort to put together a COVID SAFETY PLAN .  This document provides considerations, resources, and guidelines for general safety, practices and games to allow our kids to be safe in returning to play baseball. We used recommendations from Little League International,  Norfolk Department of Public Health, Dr. Colin Findlay, and Governor Northam's Phase 3 Plan guidelines to ensure we do everything possible to make sure all players, parents, managers, coaches and other game attendees are as safe as possible during this difficult and challenging COVID-19 Pandemic.

This will only be successful if everyone works together to ensure we follow the guidelines to keep everyone as safe as possible. We ask the following of all attendees.

1. Please do not attend games if you have any symptoms of COVID-19 (signs will be posted), have been in close contact with someone who has symptoms of COVID-19, been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, have been in close contact with someone who is awaiting test results of COVID-19 or if you have tested positive for COVID-19 and have not yet been cleared by a Physician.

2.. You do not have to wear a mask as long as you maintain at least 10 feet of physical distancing (this excludes family members). If you wear a mask then you may be as close as 6 feet. The fields have been marked with ribbons 10 feet apart to assist you in maintaining the 10 foot social distancing requirement. Note: Yellow ribbons are for PLAYERS ONLY!

3. If a foul ball lands close to you, please DO NOT retrieve the ball.  A team coach or player will get it to minimize contact with game balls.

4. The managers and coaches will be working extremely hard during the game to ensure the players maintain 10 feet of social distancing between each other; however, there will be instances during game play in which the kids may be closer than 10 feet for brief periods of time.

We are extremely excited about the start of our season as I am sure you are all also looking forward to seeing your kids out in the filed having fun playing Americas past time with their friends.

Thanks again for all your support and lets go out and PLAY BALL!

!!!### COVID SAFETY PLAN - PLEASE READ ###!!!

**Update June 17, 2020**

Hello Fleet Park Players, Parents, Volunteers and Friends,

The COVID-19 pandemic has been an unprecedented and life changing event and I hope everyone has been staying safe and healthy. Now that Virginia’s Phase 2 plan has been in effect for almost 2 weeks, the Fleet Park Board of Directors has recently met and decided that, it is time to start the process of returning to Little League Baseball. We have set a target date of 29 June to start back up with team practices and decided that it would be extremely difficult to play games with the current restrictions set in place by Phase 2. We are patiently waiting until the Governor’s Office releases the Phase 3 guidelines prior to developing a plan to return to playing games with the goal of starting sometime after Phase 3 implementation.

One of the many concerns of the Board of Directors is the myriad of challenges that managers, coaches, volunteers and parents will have to face within the T-Ball and Coach Pitch Division’s. We are currently weighing the benefits and risks involved with the younger age groups, and we will make a final decision during our next Board Meeting on 30 June. If we do decide to cancel play for these divisions during the summer, we will entertain possibly doing a fall ball season for those kids if feasible.

Our return to practice safety plan and wellness check sheet which will be used to screen parents, players and volunteers prior to allowing them to enter a baseball practice field to either participate or attend a practice.

We consulted with the Norfolk Health Department, local doctors, health professionals and Little League International for recommendations and best practices on how to move forward and developed our Safety Plan based on their inputs and the requirements outlined in the Governor’s Phase II guidelines and Little League International recommendations on Return to Practice and Play.

We understand the challenges and risks involved with starting back up and playing baseball is our passion; however, the health, safety and well-being of our players, parents and volunteers is priority number one.

We have a laundry list of items to complete prior to the start of practices and you should expect a phone call or email in the next few days from a league representative (manager, coach or board member) so we can get an accurate number of players who intend on playing during the summer season.

This will be a team effort and we look forward to seeing the smiling faces of our Fleet Park Players in the very near future.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you should have any questions or concerns.

Respectfully,
Mark

**Update April 10, 2020**

Fleet Park Little League will continue to follow the Governor’s Stay-At-Home directive, which is currently in place until June 10th. Therefore, all sporting activities in Virginia are currently postponed. We are working to provide contingency plans for our league in case this date changes, in either direction. The Fleet Park Little League Board will continue to monitor and follow the guidance of both Little League International and the State/Local Government to determine when our league is allowed to start.

To be clear - Fleet Park Little League will not begin practices or games until our State/Local Government has determined it is safe for both our kids and adults to resume baseball activities.

If our Spring Season is canceled, we will explore the potential for a Summer Season that could begin playing games by June 20th. This potential Summer Season would likely run from Saturday, June 20th – Saturday, August 22nd. This would allow for 10 weeks of play, minus 4th of July. (*Subject to change based on the CDC, Little League, Local Government restrictions).

In the meantime, please review the following refund options and submit your preference BEFORE MAY 18, 2020:

1. "Home Run" Option  - leave the registration fee in place with the option to:
  • play the 2020 Spring Season (if able); or
  • chose to play a potential 2020 Summer season (if 2020 Spring Season is cancelled); or
  • DONATE your registration to Fleet Park Little League.

If you choose to donate, FPLL will issue you a tax deductible receipt for your generosity as our program is only able to operate due to the extremely generous donations from our community.

2. "Rain Delay" Option - leave the registration fee in place with an option to:
  • play the 2020 Spring Season (if able); or
  • chose to play a potential 2020 Summer Season (if 2020 Spring Season is cancelled); or
  • RECEIVE A CREDIT towards the next season your child(ren) plays:  2020 Fall Ball or 2021 Spring Season
*Credits become donations if not redeemed by the Spring 2021 season.
*League age 16 players will receive a refund if 2020 Spring and 2020 Summer seasons aren't offered.

3. "Strike Out" Option - Request a REFUND.
  • Refunds will be returned within 10 business days of request.
  • Fleet Park is unable to refund any transaction fees charged by Sports Connect (previously Blue Sombrero).
*Selecting this option removes players from rosters.  If a 2020 Spring or 2020 Summer season occurs, re-entry IS NOT guaranteed.

Please click the following link to submit your refund option preference BEFORE MAY 18th
FPLL COVID-19 Options Form

Families that DO NOT submit a refund option BY MAY 18th will automatically receive the “Rain Delay” Option!

Feel free to contact FPLL President, Mark Labaire, at [email protected] with any questions or comments.

Thank you!

**Update March 24, 2020**
I am sure everyone is aware of Governor Northam's recent decision (Executive Order Fifty Three) to close all public schools K-12 and below for the remainder of the school year to limit the spread of the COVID-19 Virus. Additionally he has announced a ban of all indoor and outdoor gatherings of greater than 10 people. This order goes into effect at 11:59 PM on 24 March 2020 and will remain in place until 11:59 PM 23 April 2020. Little League International has also recommended suspending all Little League Baseball and Softball activities until 11 May 2020.

There is still hope that we will be able to have a Spring Little League Season and it will all depend on the future decisions of Little League International and our State and Local Governments. I greatly appreciate your patience and understanding and we will do our very best to keep you updated as we learn more in the coming days and weeks.

The board members are working extremely hard to prepare for the different scenarios which may occur and we will provide further guidance when we find out how things will play out. Please don't hesitate to call or email me if you have any questions or concerns in this unprecedented time.

**Update March 16, 2020**
FPLL is following the lead of local school districts and government agencies concerning (if/when to) return to play.  Thank you for your patience as we continue to keep the safety of children, families and volunteers our top priority!
-FPLL Board of Directors

**Posted March 13, 2020**
Our number one priority is to ensure the safety of our children, families and volunteers that help make Fleet Park Little League such a success. I am sure everyone is well aware of the ongoing spread of the coronavirus.  Governor Ralph Northam declared a state of emergency for Virginia on 3/12/20 based on 17 confirmed or presumed cases of the coronavirus in the state.  Today, 3/13/20, Governor Northam ordered ALL K-12th grade schools in Virginia to close for a minimum of two weeks in response to the continued spread of COVID-19.

After careful consideration, we believe it's in the best interests of our Fleet Park Family to suspend all practices and games until further notice. Though our Spring season was scheduled to start on Saturday, March 21st, we will keep you posted as we learn new information.

I highly encourage you to visit the CDC website to learn more about the coronavirus (COVID-19) and what steps you can take to reduce the chances of contracting and/or spreading the illness.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding.  Feel free to call or email me if you have any questions or concerns.
